Train your customers to keep your assets working!

Asset tracking solutions offer you many ways to locate, identify and check on your machines health. Our interfaces with Qualcomm and with Smartequip, demonstrate how important we believe such technologies are. For those with the money to invest in telemetrics, the ability to know when an asset is being used too much, when oil levels are dropping or when temperature is rising, make asset tracking devices an instant success.

However, for those not where the ROI isn’t as clear cut because your assets themselves are of a lower value or simply from the point of view of best practice there are some other practical steps that can assist you in keeping your assets in good condition. At the top of the list comes customer training!

Lets assume that when the asset leaves your yard its in prime working order… unfortunately there is no guarantee it will come back the same way. An incompetent user can change that status in minutes. So what do you do? Show them how to use it before it leaves the yard, give them a manual or a guide – that’s great, but they’re in a hurry, they aren’t listening, they forget it all before they hit the freeway! So what can we do to help?

We’ve just added a new feature to allow you to load training videos, instruction leaflets and links to manufacturer websites for each of your products and assets. When the customer takes delivery, they can also get an email with an embedded movie that shows them how to operate the equipment, and how to take care of it. With the new generation of phones, you can send it direct to their PDA, or phone so they can play it straight away.

Think about this some more… it isn’t just your customers… now you can train your staff on how to use new products (or old ones they aren’t too familiar with!) the same way. Once you’ve got the movies and manuals in the system, they are available to your staff too.

This is an area we believe has lots of potential for development, particularly considering the release of devices like the Apple iphone next month that allow playback of movies and video whilst you are on the move. Let us know what you think of this as a starting point and what further adaptations you can think of.
